Artist Statement
Coming back to Kuwait after completing my architecture education in the UAE I was met with newfound curiosity about the city I was born in. Through observation and sifting through research, archival documents, and photographs I try to reconnect to the spaces and structures around the city that I once took for granted. My research explores the built environment in Kuwait City and stresses a multidisciplinary approach where the realms of architecture, textile, and storytelling collide. I intend to shed light on various structures with historical and cultural significance either to me personally or to Kuwait’s history. My work spans both digital illustration to textile printing and manipulation as a means of softening the often dry approach to architectural analysis, and a way for me to keep my late grandmother’s passion for textiles alive through my practice.
